Each year, Cuckoo Farm Studios offers a free studio for a year to a new graduate in fine art or craft. We are currently partnered by Colchester Arts Society, who provide a cash award for materials. In addition, each Award Holder has a solo exhibition.
This year we are very pleased to stage this in the Benham Gallery at Cuckoo Farm.
As the Graduate Award Recipient 2021/22, Lucy used her studio space at CFS as a means of re-connecting with her passion for drawing, performance and time-based making practices, after primarily focusing on sculptural forms during her BA in Fine Art at University Centre Colchester.
Her work explores intangible feelings and thoughts which are confined within the boundaries of the body. She uses the therapeutic processes of body mapping and meditation to produce fluent and powerful drawings in charcoal, and soft pastel on paper.
During the first week of May 2023, Lucy used the Benham Gallery to make large scale drawings that delve into this investigation further, acquiring new means of extracting bodily traces and forms.
This exhibition includes new drawings along side work made during her year as the Graduate Award Holder.
